hi if you’re not following the terrifying saga that is my life i’m going to give a quick recap: we were given a 90 day notice earlier this year to vacate the place we live in, we have 47 days left on that notice. it’s myself and my two kids in the place we’re in now. i have been working very hard to make anything to put us ahead because i have bad credit and no matter where we go i will have to have a security deposit + first months rent. on top of all that, i still have to pay rent and bills at the place we’re at up until we either find somewhere else or are actually evicted. so that has left me with next to nothing for any of these things and no ability to save.

Also! You can get Naloxone (also known as Narcan or Evzio) for free at most pharmacies. CVS, Walgreens, and RiteAid are all a part of a program that provides Narcan for free. If you or someone you know takes any type of opioid for whatever reason, it is always smart to have a few of those on hand. It works like nasal spray and has instructions on the packet.
Needle exchanges too! You don’t have to be a PWUD to go to an exchange and ask for naloxone training and supply, it’s free, anonymous and they’ll teach you on the spot
Also it’s important to have multiple doses of narcan on hand. A normal heroin overdose might need 2-3 doses before paramedics arrive. A fentanyl overdose can take like 10 narcan doses, like you gotta have a stash.
Another important thing to note is that Narcan very often will send people into precipitated withdrawal. While the effects of this vary greatly depending on the opioid, dosage, and person, it is safer to assume that if someone has enough in a their system to necessitate narcan, their opioid receptors suddenly being blocked will send them into a sudden, intense withdrawal. The symptoms can include mood changes, muscle pain, sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. This can result in severe dehydration, and more critically, if someone is already on their back or laying down, they can asphyxiate on their vomit. Especially if you only have one dose of Narcan and are awaiting paramedics, lay them on their side in the recovery position

deffinetly let the person know whats happening when they become aware bc its real important they dont take more drugs to alleviate those withdrawl symptoms bc that will almost deffinetly send them back into an overdose, especially if the narcan wears off before the opiods leave ur system
